Silver Lining Animation partnered with the Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office to create an animated educational video designed to help primary school children understand the dangers and consequences of knife crime.
The project presented a unique challenge: communicating a serious safeguarding message to a young audience in a way that was engaging, age-appropriate, and memorable. Building on characters originally designed by local school children, we developed the animation in the style of an interactive comic book, combining dynamic visuals, motion graphics, and storytelling techniques to capture children’s attention while encouraging discussion around personal safety and positive decision-making.
A key requirement of the brief was to avoid showing any actual knives on screen. Instead, we used visual storytelling and carefully considered animation techniques to convey the risks associated with knife crime without introducing potentially distressing or inappropriate imagery. This approach ensured the content remained suitable for use within primary school settings while retaining the impact of the message.
The finished animation provides schools and community organisations with an engaging educational resource that supports crime prevention, safeguarding, and early intervention initiatives.
