SEND Support Animation for Parents | Middlesbrough Council

Silver Lining Animation worked with Middlesbrough Council to create an animated explainer video that helps parents and carers understand how SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) support works within the local area. Designed for families who may be encountering the SEND process for the first time, the animation breaks down complex information into clear, accessible steps, helping parents understand what support is available and how to access it. The video provides reassurance and guidance while signposting viewers through the various stages of the SEND journey. To maximise value and accessibility, we adopted a whiteboard animation style. This approach allowed us to feature a large number of custom character illustrations and scenarios while remaining cost-effective. The simplified visual style also supported greater inclusivity by removing specific ethnic identifiers, helping a wider range of families see themselves reflected in the content and ensuring the message remained universal and approachable. The finished animation gives Middlesbrough Council an engaging communication tool that supports family engagement, improves understanding of SEND services, and helps parents feel more confident when navigating the support available to their children.
